THE EMAIL GROUP CLASH
A once-chaotic neighborhood email group is kept civil by a moderator who screens posts, until a determined member demands the moderator's contact details, triggering a clash over boundaries and power.

A neighborhood email group that used to be "a free for all" had already gotten so nasty that neighbors were cursing at each other in public messages. So the poster, who moderates the box, started screening every incoming email before it went out. Most of what came through was ordinary neighborhood stuff: lost packages, recommendations for local businesses, the occasional civil complaint about the board or HOA president. If it stayed constructive, it went through. If it turned into drama, it didn't.
Then the neighborhood got a fresh point of tension: mailbox renovations. The work sparked some discussion, but it stayed civil. Residents and the HOA talked it through.
That was the thread Karen jumped into.
Karen sent in a message saying the renovation work had been "a waste of money." The poster declined it, deciding it wasn't productive enough for the group. That set off a new problem immediately.
Karen came back demanding the poster's name and contact information, insisting, "You have no right to decline my email! Do not do so! If you have violated this, provide you name and contact information"
The poster replied that they owned the box and got to decide what went out, because the whole point was to keep the neighborhood email group from sliding back into chaos.
Karen escalated again.
"This is a free country and not North Korea. I live here and can say what I want! This group is a way for us to connect freely with others. If this is not the case, delete the group and notify all members. Give me your name and contact information!"
After that, the poster stopped engaging and forwarded the exchange to the board. The board sided with the poster and said Karen had other complaints against her already.
Karen didn't stop. Later, she tried to send another complaint, this time accusing the gate repair man of doing his job wrong and claiming he had installed the gate incorrectly. The gate was fine. That email was declined too.
Now Karen is back again, still asking for the poster's information. The board is discussing whether to remove her from the social email group while still keeping her on the official HOA email list.
The poster says they're tired of the harassment and worried Karen will go further if she ever finds out their address.
