A croissant, a bottle of cola, and a cemetery bench set off a confrontation no one expected.
The poster had just come from a doctor's appointment where they'd been told not to eat or drink anything beforehand. By the time it was over, they were hungry and thirsty enough to head straight to a supermarket for something quick: a croissant and a store-brand cola.
Then came the next problem, finding somewhere to sit.
They needed a quiet place away from a busy road, and the nearest one was a cemetery. So they went inside, walked over to some benches, and sat down to eat.
That was when an older woman, described by the poster as being in her 70s, came walking by and stopped with a question: who were they visiting?
The poster answered plainly that they were "just eating somewhere quiet."
That response seemed to land badly.
The woman told them they should be ashamed, calling it disrespectful, and said, "you should be ashamed to be so disrespectful" before walking away.
The poster stayed put, finished the croissant and the cola, and then left.
Later, they explained the situation in full: the fasting had left them especially hungry and thirsty, the supermarket had been the nearest stop, and the cemetery had simply been the closest place they could find to sit quietly. They also said they understood why the woman may have reacted strongly, especially if she was grieving. But from their side, it had only been a place to eat after an appointment, nothing more, and nothing less.
