CIRCLING COLLIE MYSTERY

A collar-wearing border collie kept circling a semirural road near the poster's home for hours, and nobody knew where it belonged.

It started around 5 PM, during a walk. The poster noticed a large border collie they had never seen before, moving with a strange, repetitive pattern the poster later described as a "circle." The dog had a collar on, but it didn't run up to people or other dogs. It just kept going, as if it had somewhere to be and couldn't quite get there.

A friend called later and asked whether the poster had seen the dog. She said she had been freaked out when she noticed it too, though she didn't seem to treat it as an emergency. The poster kept watching.

By around 7 PM, the same dog was still out there, going back and forth from right to left every 5 to 15 minutes. On one side of the area were housing blocks; on the other were some shacks. The dog kept crossing between them, alone.

Other neighbors were watching too. No one else did anything.

So the poster called the cops.

It took a long time. Two neighbors also made calls before police finally showed up. By then, the dog was scared, but an old man managed to keep it calm. When the police checked the dog, they found a chip and used it to identify the owner. They called him, and around 10 people were nearby when the situation finally got sorted out.

Before leaving, the police told the owner he would have to pay an "off-leash ticket," or something like that.

Then the neighborhood reaction started rolling in. The poster heard people sympathizing with the owner instead of the call to police, and that made the whole thing feel suddenly different. One line from the crowd stuck in the poster's head: "omg poor man, if you didnt call the cops." Another said, "man, hope ur on the clear."

The poster was left sitting with the question that came after all of it: "i'm really a piece of shit?"
