The wedding invitation got pulled after the bride learned her friend had been telling people she "stole her man."

At 25, the poster worked with a 28-year-old friend who had briefly dated a man years earlier, about six months, long enough for the friend to show a few photos, but not long enough for the poster to think much of it. She had never met him. To her, it sounded like old history.

Then, more than a year after the breakup, she met him at a local honky tonk.

The two hit it off. Later, when he showed up around some of her friends, they recognized him from the photos. That was when the poster realized she was talking to the same ex her coworker had dated.

When the poster and the man started seeing each other, she told the friend about it. According to the poster, the friend said it was not a big deal and that she did not care. The poster says she forgot about that conversation, and honestly, about the fact that they had any history.

She and the man fell hard. They fell in love, and eventually got engaged.

That should have been the end of the old storyline. Instead, wedding planning cracked it open.

While going through the guest list and the usual chaos, the poster learned the friend had been telling their circle a much more dramatic version of events. In that version, the poster had "stole her man" on purpose. The friend was saying she dated him because she was jealous of her. She made it clear she believed the poster was wrong for marrying him.

So the poster uninvited her.

That did not go quietly.

The friend reacted angrily, saying the poster was wrong for marrying her ex, that she had "ruined everything," and that it was disrespectful. The blowback didn't stop there. The poster says the friend's trash talk caused some mutual friends to pull away, and one of them told her she should not have uninvited the friend at all.

Now the poster is stuck in the middle of it, saying she does not mean to make her friend feel bad, but also feeling like the friend's ongoing narrative crossed a line. In her view, having that story hanging over the wedding would have ruined the day.

Still, she's left wondering whether she broke "girl code" by marrying a man her friend once dated, and by cutting the friend out when the wedding got close.
