A diner crew fights for the lunch price as a server frays over cutoffs, turning a rushed order into a tense clash over timing and fairness.

The lunch special vanished at 3:00, and the table's order didn't get taken until 3:01.
A poster on AITAH says they got out of class around 2:25 and rushed to the Angry Crab, chasing the lunch menu that ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They and a friend arrived at 2:35 to hold a table and order for two other friends. By 2:40, they were seated and asking the server the key question: could they still order from the lunch menu?
According to the poster, the server said, "as long as it's before 3, yes," and walked away.
The poster says they were ready to order right then, but the server didn't come back until 2:55, not to take the food order, but only to take drink orders. The poster told her the drinks and said they were ready to order as well. The server reportedly said no, that she was only going to get the drinks right then.
So the poster asked again: would they still be able to order off the lunch menu? The server repeated that yes, they could, if it was before 3. The poster pointed out that it was already 2:55 and that if the server came back later, it would likely be 3 already, asking whether they'd still get the lunch price.
That's when the exchange sharpened. The server said that if it was after 3, then no, and added: "like I said I can get your drinks orders now. I have two other tables that came before you and I can't just let you skip the line."
The poster responded, "oh it's because we came for the lunch menu. :/"
The server sighed, dropped her pen, said, "i'll come back," and left without even taking the drink orders.
She returned at 3:01, ready to take the order, and said she would have to see if she could still ring it in for the special. By the end of the meal, the check had dinner prices. The poster says they pointed that out, and the server took the checks away and said she'd ask the manager to override it.
When she came back, she reportedly told the table that next time she wouldn't be able to give the discount even if they were in the restaurant before 3 and ready to order before 3, because she had to put it in before 3.
The poster, who says they are also a server, felt the woman had been rude and had made it seem like the delay was the table's fault. The table did not tip her.
