The fight started with a haircut comment and ended with one coworker planning to report the other for workplace bullying.
A 25-year-old woman was working at a tiny startup, just five employees total, where everyone was close and the mood was usually easygoing. Last week, she came in wearing her hair in two braids and, by her own account, felt cute about it.
Then Annie, a 27-year-old coworker, looked at her and said, "Wow, I never realized how thin your hair is."
The poster says she wasn't offended. She says her hair has always been thin, and she smiled and answered, "Yeah! You too? Twins!"
That did not land the way she expected.
Annie snapped back, "Go to hell," then spent the rest of the shift ignoring her.
After that, the situation spread through the office. The poster says Annie kept avoiding her and told other coworkers about what happened behind her back. According to the poster, Annie also said she planned to report her for workplace bullying once the boss got back from vacation.
The poster turned to the internet asking whether she should apologize. She said the other employees were trying not to take sides, but one person told her she ought to apologize anyway.
She also said she had tried to fix it directly. In her update, she wrote: "Yes, I have tried speaking to Annie one on one again to discuss the issue but she has turned me down 5 times." She added, "She has told me she doesn't feel comfortable talking to me without our boss present."
The boss, meanwhile, was out of town. The poster said she only sent one message on Microsoft Teams after hearing about the possible report. The boss told them to use his personal number only for emergencies and said the issue could wait until he returned.
Later, she posted another update: "FOR PEOPLE WANTING AN UPDATE: My boss doesn't come back until this Friday. If a meeting does happen I will share. Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it!"
She also added more context about her hair. "I don't have much hair on my head but like I said it's something I have always had," she wrote, saying a hairstylist had told her it was thin and that it ran on her mom's side of the family. In another comment, she said, "I always found the beauty in it because it reminds me of grandma :)."
So the chain of events stayed simple: one comment about thin hair, one joke back, one angry response, then days of avoidance, behind-the-back talk, and a looming report waiting for the boss to return.
