An 18-year-old, living with her grandpa, discovers a treasured heirloom doll has had its hair hacked by her 13-year-old sister, sparking tensions and questions about trust and boundaries.

A cherished doll turned up with a chunk of its hair hacked away, and the 18-year-old who found it says the culprit was her 13-year-old sister.
The poster lives with her grandfather, 81, and had recently gotten her own car. She had already told her sister she would pick her up and bring her back in "a fortnight," with their mother, 45, having cleared the plan. So when the younger sister came to stay in the spare room, it seemed like another ordinary visit.
Then the poster got back into hairstyling as a hobby and went looking for an old American Girl-style doll she wanted to braid. Instead, she lifted it up and saw what she described as "a huge chunk or hair missing from the front of her head."
That doll was not just old. It had been a gift from the poster's great grandmother and grandfather, both deceased, and was named after the English version of her grandmother's name. The doll sat in the spare room where the sister sleeps when she visits, and the poster says that room has also been the landing zone for other missing belongings.
She calls her sister a "known thief." One example was a stuffed elephant she bought at a thrift store "to save for my future children when I have them." Another was her first microphone, bought with her own money, which later turned up broken on the sister's desk.
This time, the poster messaged and asked directly whether the sister had cut the doll's hair.
The answer came back fast.
At 2 a.m., the sister admitted it. "It was 2 am I had a nightmare I needed something to do," she wrote, according to the poster.
The reply was immediate. The poster reminded her sister that the doll had been given to her by her great grandmother and told her that if she needed something to do, she should go on TikTok or talk to someone instead of damaging property.
But there was no apology.
The poster says her mother did not speak to the sister about it and, in the poster's view, "in a way condoned her actions." She also says the sister lives about an hour away, which makes it harder to retrieve anything that disappears.
After the doll's hair was cut, the poster decided she did not want the sister coming over anymore. She asked whether she was wrong for uninviting her sister because of her "sticky fingers."
