COFFEE MACHINE FEUD

The espresso machine was already broken once, and now one roommate wanted to use the replacement anyway.

The poster, 28, has lived with two roommates, both 27, for about 18 months. Last year, she bought a $400 Breville espresso machine. She described herself as "a coffee nerd," and called it "one of my few nice things." It was not a shared apartment gadget in her mind; it was hers.

Then Roommate A used it without asking.

According to the poster, Roommate A did not clean it properly afterward, and the machine eventually failed from "scale buildup + shee ran it dry." The poster said the espresso maker was ruined because of that misuse. Roommate A's response was a quick apology and a promise: "sorry girl, I'll replace it."

That replacement never came. Instead, Roommate A kept using the cheap drip machine in the apartment and left the broken espresso maker unreplaced.

Months later, the issue came back around.

Last week, Roommate A asked if she could use the poster's new espresso machine, "same model," she said, as if that settled things. The poster said no. Her reason was simple: Roommate A still had not replaced the last one, and she did not trust her with another expensive machine.

Roommate A did not take that well. She got angry and called the poster selfish, then said, "it's just a coffee maker, we're friends."

The argument did not stop there. Roommate B weighed in too, saying the poster was being petty and holding a grudge over "a kitchen appliance."

The poster pushed back. She said she was not going to keep sharing expensive things with people who did not respect them. After one machine had already been used without permission and broken, she was not interested in handing over another one and hoping for a different outcome.

The dispute left the apartment split over something that started with coffee and ended with a damaged machine, an unpaid replacement, and a hard no.
