LOCKDOWN LODGING SAVED

A traveler in Jalisco thought the hardest part was already over, then the Airbnb clock started running out.

Just outside the town, the poster said, everything had shut down. No restaurants. No stores. No gas. The whole area was under shelter-in-place orders, and people were supposed to stay off the streets and major roads. The problem was simple and immediate: their Airbnb reservation ended tomorrow.

The poster had planned to leave the next morning, but then the situation on the ground turned from inconvenient to impossible. The host refused to extend the stay. The reason was blunt: "there are more guests coming so we cannot extend our stay."

That left one question hanging over the post: where was the traveler supposed to go?

According to the poster, nowhere. They wrote that "there is NOWHERE open- hotels or anything," and even if there had been, the local orders meant people were not supposed to be out on the roads. The town was shut down, the roads were restricted, and the booking was about to end.

So the poster called Airbnb, hoping the company could step in. Instead, they said they ran into a wall of ambiguity. Airbnb would not give a clear answer and told them it was "up to the host." Nothing could be done, they said, until the situation was "officially communicated to Airbnb."

That left the traveler stranded in a place with no open hotels, no gas, and no extension on the rental they were already in. The question at the center of the post was as plain as it was urgent: "What can Airbnb do?"

Then came the update.

"SOLVED! Thank you so much for your help, y'all!" the poster wrote at the top. The fix, they said, came after the consulate got involved. "Consulate reached out to AirBnB after getting lots of calls and they issued me a coupon for a few days for another spot nearby!"

What started as a last-day housing crisis in a locked-down town ended with a new place to stay, a coupon from Airbnb, and one very relieved update.
