The upstairs neighbor's noise got so bad that one apartment in the building was nearly lost to "excessive stomping and banging", and this weekend, it boiled over.
Earlier this month, the poster said the neighbor above had "completely ruined" their apartment. Management's answer was blunt: either "call the cops every day," or "move to a different unit in our building on a lower floor and no longer facing the water, while still paying the same rent." The poster was close to taking the deal, but decided not to. They stayed put.
Then came the weekend that pushed everything over the edge.
The poster and their partner finally had some time alone while their 2-year-old stayed with the child's grandmother. For a moment, it should have been a rare quiet break. Instead, around 10 p.m. on Friday, the upstairs neighbor came home and started stomping so loudly it killed the mood on the spot.
Saturday was worse. At 8 a.m., the banging and slamming started again. It did not let up. The noise rolled through the day, nonstop, until 11 p.m.
By today, it had taken on a new shape. The poster described it as sounding like "picking up a fully packed luggage bag and dropping it above your head onto our ceiling" every 20 minutes. The couple was exhausted and stressed, running on too little sleep. The poster said even their partner needed headphones to sleep.
Then came the moment that broke the tension.
A friend of the partner heard the noise firsthand. The next morning, she snapped. She hit back at the ceiling with a broom and shouted up at the neighbor: "SHUT THE FUCK UP WITH THE NOISE."
After that, the apartment went quiet.
For hours, there was no stomping, no slamming, no ceiling-thudding drops every 20 minutes. Just the silence the poster had been chasing for weeks.
But the problem was not over in the mind of the tenants. Today, the partner emailed the manager and asked to be released from the lease immediately. The reason, they wrote, was the noise and the fact that they had been "having to wear headphones to sleep."
The poster said they would update when management responds.
