A surrogacy success story ended with a courtroom summons, a destroyed batch of embryos, and a couple claiming the people who planned to give them away had stolen their future.

A few years ago, the poster and their husband had a child through surrogacy and ended up with "5 top grade embryos frozen" after the birth. They did not want another child of their own, so they decided to "gift these embryos to a couple who we viewed as friends." The poster described the surrogacy journey as unusually smooth, a "text book case of perfection as IFV can come", and said the surrogate and both families became very close.

That is where Greg and Karen entered the story. They were casual acquaintances, the kind the poster did consider friends, and the two couples began talking about whether the embryos could be gifted. But the conversation was only exploratory. The poster says there was no finalized deal, only careful back-and-forth under legal counsel, with interactions recorded. At one point, they told Greg and Karen to get their own attorney and have counsel contact them if they wanted to continue. The poster's wording, they say, was deliberate: "we could talk about details and hopefully come to an arrangement."

Then the relationship blew up.

According to the poster, Greg and Karen revealed political beliefs that were wildly different from theirs. Soon after, the poster says, they started telling people the embryos had already been given over. They allegedly claimed they had begun fertility-clinic appointments and that Karen was taking IVF hormones. They were also, the poster says, running their mouths about how they were glad the deal was finished so they would never have to use the poster again, and that the poster and their husband were "horrible people who don't deserve a child because of their political beliefs."

Friends recorded some of the rants. In one, the poster says Greg and Karen floated an anonymous tip to child protective services so the child could be taken away. That was the point where the poster went back to legal counsel. After that consult, the decision was made to destroy the embryos rather than hand them over.

Their counsel later informed Greg and Karen's lawyer that the embryos were gone and there would be no agreement. The poster expected that to end it. They had no further contact and were in the middle of moving away.

Then came the final walk-through, the loaded truck, and the court summons.

Greg and Karen are now suing for breach of contract, theft and destruction of their property, lost wages, medical costs, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and punitive damages. The poster says their own lawyer believes "there is no case," but warned that fighting it will be expensive, and advised a countersuit.
