A remote-work ultimatum pushed a 27-year-old woman out of a job she hated, and suddenly she found herself with a rare option: school, full-time, with no work for a while.

That's where the question landed. In a post, the woman said she had recently quit because of a return-to-office order, and now she was "lucky enough" to be in a position where she could go back to school without working for a little bit. Instead of treating that as a clean reset, she threw out a practical challenge: if someone were starting over, what degree or career path would they choose?

She wasn't asking in the abstract. She laid out a list of hard filters. Whatever path she picked would need to pay in the 80k to 100k-plus range. She did not want a job that depended on climbing some corporate ladder. She was ruling out healthcare. She had no tech background, so that was off the table too. And she didn't want a male-dominated trade.

That narrowed the field fast.

So did her tone. She said she was open to anything, but one piece of advice was not welcome: "find your passion." She called that "such a lame cliche and, frankly, unrealistic for almost everyone on earth." The comment read less like a dream board and more like someone trying to buy a future with both eyes open.

The whole post came from a woman trying to make the most of an unexpected pause. She had already walked away from a job she hated. Now she was staring at the blank space after the resignation and asking strangers for something more useful than inspiration: a realistic path, with a real salary, and no built-in corporate climb.
