He was one first date in when he realized the woman across from him had been recording him the whole time.

The poster, 32, said the date was with a 27-year-old woman at a patio-style restaurant, and at first, it looked promising. The conversation was going well. Drinks were on the way. Appetizers were being set down. Her phone sat on the table from the moment she arrived, but she wasn't scrolling through it or texting under the table. It just stayed there, face-up, like part of the place setting.

Then the waitress came by with the drinks and appetizers, and the poster reached over to move the phone out of the way so there'd be room.

That was when he saw it.

A recording app was running.

The poster said the shock hit immediately. He asked, "why the fuck are you recording this?" and stood up on the spot. He paid, ended the date, and went home. Whatever ride arrangement had been discussed was over too.

Later, the woman took the story public. She called him an "asshole and abusive," and said he had left her there after they had already talked about him "giving me a ride back home after the date." She also complained that he was "rude as hell" for raising his voice and using swear words when he confronted her about the phone.

In an edit, the poster said the date happened in the greater LA area and pointed out that California is a two-party consent state. He also said that, as "a brown latino inmigrant," he would rather not involve the police, especially "not these days."

What started as a normal dinner date on a patio ended with one person walking out after finding a live recording app on the other person's phone, and the aftermath playing out online.
