DIRTY SHEETS DILEMMA

The problem was not a messy room. It was the dirty sheets.

A young adult living at home had always done one small favor whenever their mother came back from work trips: clean the room and make the bed fresh for her return. The mother traveled for work and could be gone for months at a time, then show up late and expect her room reset. The poster said they usually didn't mind. They lived there rent-free while saving up, and the request was simple enough.

Then the holidays changed the routine.

The mother had started dating a guy and sometimes had him over when she was in town. On Thanksgiving, he stayed the night. The poster heard them having sex from their room. The next day, the mother left without cleaning anything up, not the room, not the sheets, nothing.

Now she is due back next week for the holidays, and the expectation was apparently the same as always: clean room, fresh bed, no questions asked.

Except this time, the poster said no.

They told their mother, plainly, "I don't feel comfortable cleaning her dirty sheets." The issue, they explained, was the bodily fluids on them, "those" bodily fluids, as the post put it. The mother did not take that well. She got pissed and said it was not a big deal, since housekeepers in hotels clean dirty sheets all the time.

The poster refused again.

"I'm not touching those sheets even with gloves," they said.

That was the point where the argument hardened. The mother was still angry, but she also said she would do it herself.

The setup was familiar: a parent away for work, a child helping out at home, a room that gets cleaned when she returns. But the last visit left behind more than a rumpled bed. This time the poster wasn't willing to wash the evidence of what happened in that room, especially after hearing it happen through the wall in the first place.

The mother wanted the sheets handled. The poster wanted no part of them. And with the holidays coming, that is where the situation stood.
