POTLUCK GONE WRONG
A holiday potluck invitation sparks a wild miscommunication, sending a guest on a fruitless citywide chase where an empty table hints at a fallout to come.

The invitation came early, "3 weeks in advance," to a holiday potluck at a friend's place. So when the day finally arrived, the poster and their mom did what you'd expect before a dinner like that: they cooked, packed up food, and got ready to head out.
Then came the text.
The poster messaged the host to say they were "on my way to theirs," only to get a reply that changed everything. The friend said "the dinner location was changed to a different friend's house in the next city over, about 20 miles away."
Already en route, the poster kept driving and asked for the address.
That's when the answer got worse.
According to the friend, "everyone was already there" and there "wasn't enough room for me." The poster tried to follow up, hoping for some kind of clarification or solution, but after that, there was nothing else. No address. No new plan. No further reply.
At that point, the poster decided not to escalate things by texting the other guests directly. "I didn't want to make a scene," they said, so they turned around and went home.
A couple of days later, an apology text finally came through.
By then, the damage was done. The poster said the whole thing "felt like the rug got pulled from under me," and called it a "Super frustrating situation all around." They said the experience left them planning to end the friendship altogether: "As for the friend, i'm planning to cut contact with her."
What had started as a holiday potluck invitation weeks earlier ended with food never delivered, a drive to the wrong place, and a last-minute message that there was no room left at the table.
