He had a huge crush on his high school teacher, and years later he ran into her again, only to find out she's single.

The poster says he is 28 now, but the story goes back to his senior year of high school, when he was 18 and she was 23, fresh out of college. "I had a huge crush on her," he said. "Nothing inappropriate ever happened." At the time, he kept it to himself. "I was super shy and never told anybody," he wrote.

He says there was no flirting, no secret back-and-forth, no boundary-crossing in class. She was just the teacher he couldn't stop thinking about, and he was the quiet student who never said a word.

Then, recently, he bumped into her again.

The encounter changed the shape of the old crush. He says she still caught his attention right away. "I'm not nearly as shy todays," he wrote, and after talking with her a little, he went looking for her online. That search turned up a new detail: she was single.

From there, the connection moved onto social media. The two became friends there, and the poster says the attraction didn't fade. If anything, it sharpened. "She's 33 now. Dark hair and blue eyes. She's really sweet," he said.

Now he's stuck on the same question: whether the history between them makes any move off-limits. He says he "really want[s] to ask her out but not sure it's appropriate?" because "she was my teacher a long time ago." He emphasizes again that "We didn't flirt or do anything inappropriate."

The whole situation, for him, comes down to one thing: whether a crush that started when she was his teacher can become something else now that they're adults, years removed from school. "Is it wrong to try and date her now?" he asked.
