The fight started over a can of Pepsi and ended with a girlfriend saying a cleaning lady should be fired.
A 42-year-old man described the whole thing as a "dumb argument" and asked for judgment after his girlfriend pushed him to let go of the woman who cleans his house every other week. He said the cleaner is "super hardworking, really nice, and I completely trust her." She comes while he is at work, and he returns to a spotless home. For two years, he said, that arrangement had never caused a problem.
Then came the Pepsi.
At one point, the cleaning lady told him she had drunk a can of Pepsi from his fridge and even asked if she should pay him back. He told her no. In fact, he said she had "100% has my permission to take a break and eat/drink whatever she needs while she's here." He described it as a simple work break: she was not sitting around being lazy, just taking a pause while doing the job.
After that, he said, she occasionally helped herself to small things: a pop, a glass of juice, once a piece of toast. He stressed that she had never taken a full meal, snacks, or anything beyond that.
His girlfriend, 38, saw things differently.
One night she was over and said she had seen the cleaning lady "stealing from the fridge." The poster pushed back immediately, saying it was not stealing because the woman had his permission. The girlfriend called it "weird, unprofessional" and said it could lead to "boundary crossing." She told him he should fire the cleaner before it "gets worse."
He refused. He said he had known the woman for two years and nothing inappropriate had ever happened. From his point of view, the setup was working. "Why change something that's been working perfectly fine?" he asked.
The argument kept going, and he later added an update: "she hung up because I still don't understand her logic."
The poster ended by asking the internet, "Am I being weird ?" For him, the issue was simple, a trusted cleaner, a few drinks and snacks, and a house that got cleaned every other week without trouble. For his girlfriend, it was a line crossed inside the fridge.
