The child the couple had been raising for two years turned out to be the husband's.
The poster opened with the bare minimum and then admitted there was "a lot to this," because it was "all newly revealed" and she was still "so angry about all this." What she knew was enough to blow up a family: the child she thought had come into their lives through her husband's sister was actually his biological child.
It started four years ago, when the husband's sister adopted a baby after describing herself as a "single mom by choice." According to the poster, the sister's friend had a child she did not want to raise, and the sister stepped in and became the baby's mom. The whole family supported the adoption.
Then, two and a half years ago, the sister was diagnosed with MS and declined quickly. She asked the poster and her brother to take in the child. They agreed. At that point, they had no children of their own. The sister still spent time with the child, and she kept asking them to raise the child no matter what happened to her.
Through all of it, the husband looked like nothing more than an uncle helping care for his sister's child. The poster says he never seemed suspicious.
Recently, that changed. The sister confessed that the husband was actually the biological father. She said he and her best friend "used to hook up occasionally," and that he had done it again right before the marriage, which resulted in the child. The poster confronted her husband. He denied it. So she asked for a DNA test.
The test confirmed it: he was the father.
Only then did he admit part of the truth. He said nothing happened after the marriage. He apologized, said he loved the poster, and described it as "a drunk night before our wedding." Then he suggested they stay together and become a family by adopting the child and raising them as their own.
The poster left the house and has been staying with her sister since the results came back. She says she is disgusted and that she does not want to "sign up for this." She says all she can see is what her husband did, and she cannot imagine raising the child or keeping him in her life.
The husband's sister apologized multiple times and told the rest of the family the truth. After that, the husband's parents began calling the poster, trying to pull her back in. They told her she has a family now and "you can't leave," especially because their daughter cannot raise the baby again.
She blocked them after they kept blaming her, shaming her, and pushing counseling and moving forward "as a family."
Now she says, "I don't see a way back from this," and that she "could never be a good mom to them knowing what I know." She asked whether she would be the AH for wanting to divorce and walk away.
