The wedding ended in the aisle, with the bride turning back after hearing her groom's vows and walking out in front of both families.
The man, 35, had said the relationship with his 34-year-old partner was stable and happy, and the wedding itself had been on track. The one thing he could not get right was the vows. He wanted them to sound "perfect," so he used ChatGPT to write them, asking for something "well written and expressive."
He knew his partner disliked AI. He just did not think it would matter.
When the ceremony began, he read the vows aloud. At some point, she realized what she was hearing. She leaned in and whispered, "did you use fucking AI to write that?" Then she gave him an ultimatum: speak from the heart, or she would walk out.
He froze.
She did exactly what she said she would do. She walked back down the aisle, leaving the room stunned and confused. Friends and family had no idea what had just happened. The ceremony stopped there.
Afterward, she stopped responding to him. He posted asking whether the relationship was still worth fixing, while commenters overwhelmingly told him he had ignored her feelings about AI and disrespected her on one of the biggest days of their lives.
In an edit the same day, he said he understood the situation was worse than he had thought. He said he had tried contacting her family and learned she was staying out of state with her sister. He also laid out what he planned to do next: write new vows without AI, bring her favorite flowers and snacks, and tell her he loved her.
He later admitted he had thought getting help from the officiant would be "less authentic," but said he had taken "an even worse route without realizing." He also wrote, "I didn't realize she'd be able to tell right away."
More than two months later, he returned with another update. He said he had told her about the Reddit post and the replies. She was furious that he had been "posting our business." She was also upset that his mother had texted her about paying back the wasted wedding money. Even after he offered couples counseling, she refused to give him another chance.
By then, the wedding was already over for good. He wrote, "the wedding is never happening again. It's over." He also said it had been the "more horrendous time" of his life and added, "I've thought about giving up altogether."
One commenter's blunt summary: "She dodged a bullet."
