FRIES AND FALLOUT
During a routine McDonald's run, a husband quietly records his wife devouring his fries, sparking a videotaped confrontation that spirals into blame, mistrust, and long-lasting family strain.

The fries disappeared one by one, and the wife still said, "We ate them all, honey."
That was the moment the poster decided to stop letting it slide.
He said he does not eat much fast food unless the family is on a long drive, but when they do stop, McDonald's fries are his weakness. His wife is the opposite: she usually packs healthy snacks for herself and calls the food "disgusting." Even so, she has a habit of asking for "a few" fries and then quietly eating half, or more.
On this trip, the pattern started the same way. The poster, his wife, and their 13-year-old son Nick were driving when the wife needed a bathroom stop. While she was inside, he asked if she wanted anything from McDonald's. Her answer was simple: "No, but I will take a couple of your fries."
He ordered his usual meal and thought about the usual problem. If he buys her a medium fry of her own, she refuses to eat it because he got it for her. If he lets her share his, she eats most of it. So this time, he told Nick he wanted to run an experiment.
After they got back to the car, Nick took everything out of the bag except the fries, placed the fries between the seats, and started recording from the back seat. The poster said he would not touch them. He expected his wife to eat all of them.
For the rest of the drive, he ate his burger and McNuggets, chatted normally, and watched her reach into the bag again and again. She kept taking fries. Eventually, she asked for the garbage and began cleaning up.
Then she said, "We ate them all, honey."
That was the cue.
He answered loudly, "What do you mean 'we' ate them all? I haven't had any!" Then he told her Nick had video evidence proving he did not take a single fry, so if the fries were gone, she had eaten them.
She blew up. The poster says she was furious about being videotaped without consent, and then turned that anger on Nick for going along with it. He says he was trying to make a point: that she eats more of his food than she realizes, and that he would rather just buy her a separate order of fries.
He also says she never watched the video, but seems to believe she really did eat all the fries.
Since then, he says, she has spent the past two weeks ignoring him and treating their son badly. He thinks she expects an apology for the recording.
What started as a couple of fries turned into a fight that followed them home.
