Are these jobs about contacts or a different world?

How do people land the jobs that pay half a million dollars a year?

That was the question posted out loud, without much preamble, and it started with one specific figure: the poster said they knew a woman who made "like 800k+ after taxes" in "some high up vague executive manager position." The number was so far beyond ordinary salaries that the whole post hung on one obvious mystery: how does somebody get there?

The poster didn't pretend to understand the lane. They said they had "no idea what these things mean," and the title itself came in all caps of disbelief: "How do people get those jobs that make like 500k+ a year??" The post wasn't about one particular company or one named role. It was about the fog around the entire tier of jobs where the paychecks stop sounding real.

So the questions piled up fast. How did that woman get into that position? Was it just a matter of knowing somebody? If so, how do people even meet the right contacts in the first place? And once someone is in one of these jobs, what are they actually doing all day? The poster asked bluntly: "What do these jobs even entail?"

The post read like someone standing outside a locked door, peering through the glass at a world with its own rules, titles, and pay scales. "Some high up vague executive manager position" was as close as the poster could get to naming it. The details stayed hazy, but the frustration was clear: there are jobs out there paying around 500k, 800k after taxes, and for a lot of people they might as well belong to another species.

The message ended with a quick apology, just in case it broke the rules. "Sorry if this is against sub rules I'll delete it if it is," the poster wrote, ready to pull the whole thing down if needed.

But the question had already been asked: how do people get those jobs, and what on earth are they actually doing once they have them?
