The moment she saw her boyfriend delete a chat from his male gym partner, the whole drive changed.
The poster is 25, her boyfriend is 28, and they've been together for about a year. By her account, things have mostly been good. They work out together sometimes, take small trips, and she says she's tried hard to be the "understanding, supportive gf" type, especially because he once told her his ex was controlling.
Lately, though, he'd been spending more time at the gym. He kept saying he was feeling "motivated," and at first she didn't think much of it.
Then, a few days ago, she borrowed his phone to play music while they were driving.
That's when a notification popped up from his gym partner, a guy. She saw the name, asked about it, and said he immediately grabbed the phone and deleted the chat.
She later brought it up again, gently, asking, "hey, is something wrong? why delete the msgs?" She says she wasn't accusing him of anything. She just wanted an honest explanation.
His answer only made her feel worse. He told her, "nothing, just gym stuff," and then brushed off the concern, saying she was overreacting and that she always assumes the worst.
That left her stuck on the same detail: why delete the messages at all?
She says the part that bothers her most is that the messages were from a male gym partner, not someone she'd already been suspicious of. But the deletion happened fast, and it happened in the middle of an otherwise ordinary moment. She also says he's been mentioning this same guy more often lately, which makes the whole thing feel strange to her.
For now, she's not saying she caught him doing anything outright. What she has is a deleted chat, a dismissive response, and a feeling that something doesn't add up.
She's now wondering whether to bring it up again or let it go. For someone trying to be the "understanding, supportive gf," the question hanging over the relationship is simple: was this just gym stuff, or a red flag?
