At 8 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2024, a 12-year-old watched their mother smash a computer on the kitchen counter because they refused to give up the password.
"One year ago today my mom smashed my computer on this counter and broke it," the poster wrote, pointing to the same spot in the kitchen where the damage happened. The date was explicit. So was the memory: Oct. 3, 2024, sometime around 8 to 9 p.m., when the poster was 12.
The chain of events was short and brutal. The poster would not hand over the password to the computer. The mom wanted it anyway. Instead of getting access, she took the machine to the counter and smashed it until it broke.
"I didn't give her the password to my computer and she broke it like any rational person," the writer said, laying out the argument in a single bitter sentence.
Now the counter is still there, and so is the reminder. The poster said they're reminded of the incident every time they walk into the kitchen.
What remains is not just a broken device, but a place that still carries the moment. The kitchen counter where it happened is the same one the poster passes through now, again and again, with the memory attached to it.
