A blue-eyed newborn was enough to turn a 10-year relationship into a paternity question.

The poster, a 31-year-old woman, says she and her 36-year-old husband have been together for a decade and married for three years. They have two children: a 2-year-old daughter and a 7-month-old son. Their first child looks a lot like him. Their second, she says, takes after her more, but both children still look like siblings.

Then her husband fixated on one detail: their baby boy's eyes. He told her "it's been bothering him that our son has blue eyes," and said "how he thinks it's really unlikely for him to have a child with blue eyes" because he is Hispanic, has brown eyes, and doesn't know of any relatives with blue eyes.

That wasn't the only thing on his mind.

He also brought up the timing of the pregnancy. Their second child was a surprise, and after their first baby, the couple had been using condoms. That made him suspicious enough to ask the question outright.

He "asked if our son was his."

Then he went one step further and asked "if I mind if he gets a paternity test done."

The poster says the request hit like a slap. She says she is "so hurt and just blindsided by this." She insists, "our son is definitely his," and says, "I haven't cheated on my husband." She says she works from home, doesn't have male friends, and only goes out to see friends, grocery shop, or buy things for the kids.

"I just don't understand why he thinks I would do this," she wrote. "I've never been unfaithful."

The couple's life, she says, has been under strain lately. She says they've been "fighting off and on" as they adjust to having two young children so close together. She described it as stressful, but said they otherwise don't have any huge problems in the relationship.

Still, the question has already landed, and it landed hard.

She says she even brought up marriage counseling as a possible next step. For now, though, the issue hanging over the house is the one her husband put on the table: whether their 7-month-old son is really his.
