The accusation landed in a question: how were so many people supposedly walking their dogs for hours every single day?
On social media, the poster kept seeing the same kind of routine described over and over, "something like 4x a day 30min each," or "1hr at the park and another 2 30min walks in the same day." Not once in a while, but "Every. Single. Day." The claim seemed to show up everywhere, and the poster couldn't make it add up. "this can't be the majority of people," they wrote, then pushed the bigger question out loud: "How are people walking their dogs 2-4 hours a day?" Even more bluntly: "When do they work?"
The poster then laid out their own setup. They have two medium-sized dogs, plus "24hr access to a fenced in acre that is lightly wooded." It sounds like a dog's dream on paper. In practice, the dogs "could care less about that." The open space is there, the fence is up, the trees are light, and the dogs still aren't especially interested.
So the poster tries to make up for it with a walk. The goal is simple: "We try to do a 30 min daily walk." But even that doesn't always happen. The contrast is the whole point. Around them, people seem to be logging marathon dog schedules. At home, the effort is a half-hour when life allows.
That gap led to the real question behind the post: what does normal actually look like? The poster asked for the honest average, not the idealized version, not the best-case version, but the real one. "How long do you honestly walk your dog on average?" they asked, and then narrowed it further: "House/apartment?" "Open access to outdoor?"
The post leaves off there, less as a declaration than a check on reality. One person's dogs get a fenced acre and still aren't impressed. One person's daily walk aims for 30 minutes and sometimes misses. Meanwhile, somewhere in the feed, other dog owners are apparently stacking up hour-long park trips and multiple walks before the workday is done.
