A $65 custom chocolate cake exploded on a church sidewalk, and the woman holding it got blamed for ruining a little girl's white dress.

In the middle of June, the poster picked up the cake from a bakery and headed back to the car. About half a block away, a wedding was underway at a church, and people were coming out onto the street. As the poster crossed at a crosswalk, a woman and her two kids emerged from the church. The mother was already trying to keep her little girl in line, telling her to stop jumping around and stay still. The child, described as maybe four or five years old and dressed in a very nice white dress, didn't listen.

Instead, she took off laughing, looking backward instead of where she was going, and ran straight into the poster.

The impact sent the cake flying. The poster later summed it up bluntly: "I dropped the cake, and it hit the ground on impact." The box opened when it struck the pavement, and chocolate went everywhere, including all over the child's dress.

That was when the screaming started.

The mother rushed over and accused the poster of ruining her daughter's dress and demanding money for a replacement before the ceremony. The poster said it was an accident and refused to pay, saying, "Her daughter ran into me and I wasn't paying for it." The mother kept shouting profanity until someone called the police.

When officers arrived, the mother changed her story and claimed the poster had thrown the cake onto her daughter. A witness backed up the poster's version of events. Still, the mother kept insisting on reimbursement and threatened to sue.

No one exchanged information at the scene, but the story didn't end there. Later, the poster learned someone had filmed the incident and sent the video back. The clip and multiple witnesses supported what happened: the child ran into the poster, and the cake went down in the collision.

Then the papers arrived.

The mother sued the poster for $3,000, naming a new dress, assault, and emotional distress. The poster asked online whether they would be the asshole for countersuing for the cost of the cake the child had destroyed. In later updates, the poster said the mother had somehow found out their name and address, possibly through the video, even though they live in a smaller area and are on social media.

The poster said they have video evidence and witnesses, and that the mother could have apologized or used the moment as a teaching opportunity instead of escalating everything. They also made clear they were planning to respond in court.

"Tomorrow I'm going down to file my counterclaim," the poster wrote. "I think I'm going to ask for 1.00 plus my filing fee."
