A new baby turned a husband's private irritation into open conflict, and now he says he's treating his wife like a "drill sergeant" while she's still recovering from giving birth.

The poster opened by saying, "I'm in a really bad place and I need a reality check." He said he loved his wife, called her his best friend, and described her as kind, loyal, and a great person. They had been married three years. But alongside that affection, he admitted he had long viewed her as "slow," especially when it came to technical tasks and problem-solving.

He gave examples. He had helped her with her banking app. He had explained what a "meme" was. For years, he said, that dynamic mostly didn't bother him, in fact, he kind of liked it. As an IT guy, he enjoyed being the one who could fix things for her.

Then their baby was born.

Their child was just 1 month old, and suddenly, the poster said, everything felt worse. He said his wife did not understand how to hold the baby right or change a diaper without him yelling. Even after he showed her repeatedly, she still seemed to do things wrong. He said he felt like he knew exactly what the baby needed, while she was "fumbling."

That's where the tone of the story changed. He said his patience was gone, "Completely shot." He said he was snapping at her, being "sharp and critical," and watching himself hurt her in real time. He described the house as a place where both parents were exhausted, but said he had started acting like her "drill sergeant."

He reached for the same words again and again: "She just doesn't get it." He blamed what he called "mom brain." He said he was "the one who knows what he needs," while she was still trying to catch up. But even as he wrote that, he sounded horrified by how he was acting.

He called himself "the biggest piece of shit on the planet." He said he knew this had to be his fault. He said he felt awful seeing the effect his criticism was having on her, and he asked bluntly: "How do I fix this?" "How do I stop being so angry?" "I feel like I'm ruining everything."

What began as frustration over a banking app and a meme had become something much heavier: a husband, overwhelmed by a newborn, realizing he was crushing the person he said he loved most.
