He had finally become the man he wanted to be, and now he was staring at the one thing he said he could never get back: the chance to have the wild, messy, experimental years his wife already had.
Married for five years and together for eight, the poster said his wife had been his first everything. Before her, he said, he barely dated at all. He lacked confidence, didn't take care of himself, and by his own account, missed out on the kind of romantic chaos many people stumble through in their twenties.
His wife, by contrast, had not. She had what he called a more "typical" college experience. She was upfront about it from the start, including a stretch where she had a few relationships and, in his words, "did stuff with two guys at the same time." At the time, he says, he accepted her past.
Then the present started to bother him.
He said his wife eventually became more reserved about sex and told him she had already had her "wild side" and now preferred a more traditional approach, intimacy built on love, not "wild lust." That stuck with him. Especially because, in his words, "I'm in the best shape of my life" now, physically, mentally, and emotionally. He finally feels attractive. But he also feels the door has closed on what he missed.
"I missed my chance to experience that same 'fun' side of life," he wrote. "I never had the exploration, the experimentation, the freedom."
He brought the feeling to his sister, and she did not soften it. According to him, she said it was unfair that his wife got those experiences and now expects him to settle for less. She told him he deserved an experience with at least one other woman, or he would keep resenting his wife.
But commenters pushed him to talk to his wife instead of sitting in that resentment. So he did.
The next morning, he laid it out: he had not been feeling desired. He asked why he usually had to initiate intimacy. He told her he wanted more than small changes, he wanted to seriously "spice up our bedroom life" and experience "wild lust."
His wife first reassured him. She said she loved him, found him attractive, and promised to initiate more often. When he kept talking, she listened to his fantasies and took him seriously.
Then, he said, "She broke down in tears." She asked if he still found her attractive. He comforted her, telling her he did, and that body changes after giving birth did not change that.
He ended the update saying they still had a lot to talk about, but for the first time in a while, he felt heard and hopeful.
