The birthday dinner was going fine until Lina lifted her phone, aimed it straight at the birthday girl's face, and turned a private celebration into a filming set.
A 29-year-old poster had planned a small birthday dinner last weekend at a normal-but-nice restaurant with her husband, her mother-in-law, her sister-in-law Lina, 27, and two friends. Lina was the kind of influencer who filmed "literally everything," and three days before the dinner, the poster had already tried to shut that down.
In the family chat, she wrote that she did not want to be filmed. Food and the room were fine, she said, just not her face. Lina replied, "got u."
At the table, that promise lasted about ten minutes.
Lina put her phone up and started recording. The poster asked quietly, "pls don't point it at me." Lina waved it off. "You look great, it's just vibes," she said. The husband backed his wife immediately: "she said no." Lina rolled her eyes and lowered the phone, but only for about two minutes.
Then the cake arrived.
A little sparkler was lit. Staff started singing. The room turned toward the birthday girl, and Lina stood up, raising her camera right into her face. "birthday girl reveal!" she announced.
That was the moment the poster reached out and covered the lens with her hand.
She says she did not grab the phone or touch Lina. She only put her hand over the camera for a second and said, "stop."
Lina did not take that well. She said the poster "ruined her shot" and reminded everyone that filming was her job. The mother-in-law jumped in with, "let it go for one night." The poster shot back, "it's my night - actually."
The table went quiet and awkward in the way birthday dinners do when everyone can hear the server nearby and nobody knows where to look. The server was right there. The poster says she felt embarrassed, especially with the song still going and the whole room watching. Her husband tried to change the subject, but Lina kept muttering about having to scrap "everything."
The poster even paid for her own dessert, and the group left quickly.
The next morning, Lina texted that the poster had "humiliated" her and made her look unprofessional in front of everyone. The mother-in-law said the poster should have moved seats if she did not want to be in frame. The husband said the boundary was fair, but thought she may have "made a scene" by covering the camera during the cake song.
The poster says this was not the first time. Lina has posted her before without asking, coworkers have mentioned it, and previous requests to blur or remove posts have turned into drama. That is why she put the boundary in writing before dinner.
This time, though, the first reply was "got u." Then came the phone.
