Carol's ex-husband proposed to his 22-year-old affair partner at the exact beach where Amy is supposed to walk down the aisle, and now Carol wants the whole wedding moved.
The poster, a 51-year-old mother, had already locked in "THE venue in our area" for her daughter Amy's wedding next September. The beach estate came with a $20,000 non-refundable deposit, and it was booked 18 months ahead because, as the poster put it, "It's Amy's dream wedding spot in all of her pinterest boards." Amy, 26, had wanted that place for years.
Then last month, Carol, the poster's 53-year-old sister, got hit with a fresh blow in an already ugly breakup. Her ex-husband Mark, 55, who had been cheating on her with a coworker since the woman was 22, proposed to that same coworker. The engagement photos went up online from the beachfront estate.
Not just from the estate, from the ceremony spot.
Carol saw the pictures and came undone. She begged the poster to change venues, saying she could not bear watching Amy get married in the same place where Mark had proposed to the woman he'd been sneaking around with. The poster says she understood the pain. "I feel sick for her. I do," she wrote. But she also had the deposit, the save-the-dates already sent, and the reality of a venue this expensive and this specific being nearly impossible to replace on short notice.
She told Carol she could not lose $20,000 and crush Amy's dreams because "Mark is trash."
The poster also went to Amy, who did not want to move the wedding. Amy said it was not her fault that Mark had ruined the venue for Carol. That only made the fight bigger. Carol snapped back, calling Amy a "spoiled brat who wouldn't understand real pain." In the family version of events, the accusations got sharper from there: the poster says Carol accused her of "choosing money over her mental health," and of "forcing her to relive the worst betrayal of her life for 'pretty pictures.'"
The poster's response was blunt. She said Mark, "who has been out of all out lives for the last 5 years", was the one who ruined that place for Carol, not Amy. She said the venue change would cost too much and punish the wrong person. "Carol doesn't get to hijack Amy's wedding because her husband's a cheater," she wrote.
Now Carol is skipping Thanksgiving, and the family has split down the middle. Some say the poster is heartless. Others say Carol is the one trying to make Amy's wedding pay for Mark's betrayal.
