THE CAR SHAME

Seven years after her wedding reception, one image still ruins the photos: the family car covered in obscene soap drawings, the F-word, and cruel scribbles while everyone told her to "let it go already."

The poster says her wedding was a Traditional Latin Mass celebration, planned as a family-friendly event for traditional Catholics. The requests were simple: modest dress, and women wearing veils or hats during Mass. Children were welcome, with coloring pages and crayons set out for them, and the couple's Traditional Catholic priest was even invited to the reception.

The trouble started after dinner.

According to the poster, her adult brother and adult male cousin told her that her brother had put luggage in the couple's car without her knowing and that someone needed to drive them over to it. Her husband volunteered. He left the reception and drove several blocks away to where the car was parked.

But that wasn't the last trip.

More people kept coming up with reasons the husband needed to go back to the car, supposedly to help carry things. The poster says he missed a lot of his own wedding reception that way, while family members joked in ugly terms that he must have already left her. Some of the comments were cruel enough to sting before the real damage even came to light.

By the end of the night, she says, she knew something was wrong but nobody would tell her what. She asked again and again. "Why me?" she remembers thinking as panic started to set in. She says she was on the verge of a panic attack before she finally saw the car.

What she saw was the shock at the center of the story: her brother, cousin, sister-in-law, and some of her husband's younger family members had used colored soap to draw male and female private parts, the F-word, and other mean words and drawings all over it. She says her mother laughed and called it normal, even "classic."

While she sobbed inside, her aunt and a family friend tried to wash it off. She says the car had also been toilet-papered, along with the surrounding area, but security stepped in and the fine was forgiven.

She drove away in silence. The next morning, she went through a carwash. Years later, she says the memory still comes back whenever she sees her wedding photos. She says, "I STILL can't remember my wedding reception without thinking about this!"

And despite all of it, she adds one last detail: her husband is still happily married to her.
