Emma was still asleep when her sister came home to a trashed house.
The poster, 25, had left for a weekend away with her boyfriend, their dogs, and what she thought was a temporary extra houseguest: his 18-year-old sister, "Emma." By the time they got back, the place was a mess. Emma was hungover in her room, the house needed a professional cleaner, and the poster was staring at a situation that had been building for months.
The trouble started at Christmas, when the boyfriend's parents announced they were selling the family home, downsizing, and taking a six-month cruise around the world. They also said Emma would need somewhere to stay until university. The boyfriend had already agreed she could move in with him and his partner. The poster fought it, but after the family home sold in February, Emma moved in anyway.
At first, the arrangement looked manageable. It didn't stay that way for long.
The poster says Emma took over the gym room, stole her things, lost keys, refused to help with chores, came home drunk late at night, and turned up at meals only to reject them with, "it doesn't taste right." Emma also started talking about delaying university and using the house as a base while she travelled. The poster shut that down immediately: "I'm not putting up with this for another year."
Then came the weekend away.
While the poster, her boyfriend, and the dogs were gone, Emma stayed behind alone. They returned to chaos. The house was trashed. Emma was asleep off a hangover. The poster had to pay for a cleaner to fix the place.
That was when the whole thing got bigger.
In an edit, the poster admitted, "I AM SUCH A GODDAMN IDIOT." She realized she did not want to spend her life with her boyfriend, and that something was wrong with the financial side of Emma's living situation. The boyfriend's parents had apparently been sending Emma £700 a month for her expenses. Instead, the poster learned, that money had not been covering what it should have.
The poster then got a message from the boyfriend's parents: "The £700 we send Emma each month to cover all her expenses while she lives with you." They sent £4,200 to cover what Emma should have been paying since February.
That changed everything.
The poster said Emma could no longer stay in the house. She also planned to speak to the boyfriend's parents and possibly his older sister about what to do next. The boyfriend's mother was going to ask Emma's sister whether Emma could stay there temporarily.
One fact makes the picture even sharper: the house is the poster's alone. There is no mortgage. The boyfriend is not on any official documents. He only pays half the bills by sending her money each month.
Now she's preparing for one more conversation, this time with her boyfriend. If he fights for Emma to stay, she says it will be over.
"Wish me luck helpful Reddit folks, wish me luck."
