LEAF BLOWER WAR
Two neighbors engage in a quiet turf war when a leaf blower dumps debris into one yard, prompting a silent, retaliatory move that shifts the balance of power.
Return the leaves, or let it go?

My neighbor kept blowing his leaves into my yard until the whole thing turned into a one-house turf war.
The street was the kind of leafy neighborhood where yard work is basically a second language. So at first, the sound of a big leaf blower rolling through the air didn't seem unusual. Then the leaves started landing somewhere they did not belong: in the narrator's yard. Again and again.
There was no shared fence. No shared line of property. Just a neighbor with a large leaf blower and a very loose sense of where the debris should go. He kept sending his leaves straight over, acting as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
The narrator asked him nicely to stop.
The neighbor's answer came back immediately, and with it, the whole tone of the situation: "Well, the wind just carries them that way anyway."
That excuse didn't hold up, but it did hand the narrator a perfect opening.
So the narrator waited. The leaf-blower session ran its course. The neighbor finished up, probably thinking the mess had drifted off with the usual excuses. Then the narrator got to work.
Every leaf that had been dumped into the yard got raked up and hauled right back where it came from, into the neighbor's driveway.
No speech. No warning. Just a quiet return-to-sender operation.
The narrator even made eye contact while doing it.
The message landed. Since then, the neighbor hasn't used the leaf blower at all. It has been four days, and the silence has held. The narrator now suspects the neighbor may be "broken" a little over the whole thing, and says they are sleeping better.
The final part of the exchange came in one short line, the kind that does all the work without raising its voice: "You are the wind."
