The baby name the wife loved most is now "taken," and with a daughter due next week, the couple says they're back to square one.
"Our baby girl is due next week (exciting and terrifying!), and we've been going back and forth on names," the poster wrote, setting up a deadline that's suddenly very real. For months, the wife's longtime favorite had been Amelia, the one name that kept rising to the top again and again.
Then came the problem: their best friends had a baby girl a few months ago and named her Amelia.
"My wife's longtime favorite has been Amelia... but, our best friends had their baby a few months ago and named her Amelia," the poster explained. The name wasn't just off the table in some vague, maybe-later sense. It had been "taken," and that was enough to send the couple back to the drawing board.
The wife, the poster said, is disappointed but understands. She's "a bit bummed but understands," and has started leaning toward a few other options the poster likes: Diana, Juliana, and Nora, "all of which I think are beautiful."
Still, she's not fully sold.
That leaves the couple in the familiar, slightly frantic place of trying to find a name that feels like Amelia without being Amelia: "elegant, classic but not too old-fashioned, something strong yet sweet?"
The surname adds one more detail to the puzzle: Mizzi, pronounced "Mit-si."
So now the search is on for a name that can carry that same balance, soft but sturdy, timeless without feeling dusty, and actually suit a baby arriving in days. For the moment, the shortlist stands at Diana, Juliana, and Nora, while the couple asks for favorites from that list or for fresh suggestions with the same feel.
One thing is clear: the original first choice is gone, the due date is close, and the name hunt has become urgent.
