THE WEDDING PAYBACK
A Father's Day feud erupts when a cousin's years of mocking a simple wedding collide with a woman's sharp comeback, forcing a fractured family to reevaluate loyalty.

The fight started when a cousin's divorce became the punchline at a Father's Day gathering.
The poster, 29, says she got married at 20, when she and her husband were young, in love, and broke. Their wedding was small by necessity, not by choice. Her cousin, 36, helped decorate, and the poster says she wasn't even particularly into that kind of thing, but she appreciated the help anyway. She praised her cousin all day, paid her afterward, and even gave a speech at the wedding thanking her.
That wedding was no giant production. The cousin's had been the opposite: an "extremely lavish, extremely expensive wedding," the kind the poster says was "actually perfect" and still talked about.
Then came the divorce, about four years ago.
Since then, the cousin has apparently made the poster's wedding into a recurring joke. The poster says the cousin keeps mocking how small and "corny" it was, and has gone after the bridesmaids and the poster's husband's family as "useless." Most of the time, the poster says she does not react at all. She says she does not care about her cousin's opinion.
But the cousin kept doing it.
At a large Father's Day family gathering, the cousin started up again, this time talking to her new boyfriend and insulting the wedding once more. That was when the poster finally snapped. She shot back: "well at least I'm still married."
It landed like a slap. The family got upset immediately and said the comment went "below the belt." The poster, though, says nobody has ever checked the cousin for repeatedly insulting her wedding in the first place.
The timing gave the remark its sting. The cousin had spent years mocking a marriage that is still intact, while her own ended in divorce. At the table, surrounded by family, the poster answered with the one fact the cousin could not laugh off.
Now the family is upset over the comeback, and the poster is left arguing that the joke was not out of nowhere, it came after years of being called "corny," having her guests dismissed as "useless," and hearing the same old insult over and over again.
