A free-table giveaway turned into something the couple came home to "this", and the post never says exactly what "this" was.

"We are moving and have been downsizing for our new place," the poster wrote. To clear out the extras, the wife started putting items they didn't want on a table out front of their house, with a simple rule: take them for free.

For a couple of weeks, it worked without trouble.

"It's been going great for a couple weeks now," the poster said. Neighbors and passersby came by, helped themselves, and the pile of unwanted stuff steadily thinned out. The setup was so ordinary that it had almost become part of the routine: set the items on the table, let them go, repeat.

Then, yesterday, the couple stepped out for an hour.

When they came back, the scene had changed enough that the poster wrote, "Yesterday we stepped out for hour and came back to this..." The story stops there, leaving the exact surprise off the page. Whatever happened, it was enough to need a caption, and enough to inspire one more line from the poster: "Not the Table."

That was the whole message, a tiny warning, a little exasperation, and the sense that whatever showed up while they were gone, it was not supposed to be there. The table, after weeks of quietly doing its job as a freebie station, had apparently become the center of an unexpected return.
