FIRST FATHER'S DAY BOUNDARY

On Father's Day, a couple plans to celebrate with their infant, but a pressing request from the girlfriend's brother tests their boundaries and threatens to fracture the day.

Father's Day was about to get crowded, and the poster said no.

"On Sunday it's Father's Day," the poster wrote. "My first Father's Day." For them, the day had a simple plan: spend it with their girlfriend and their 7 month old, "as a little family." Instead, the request came in from the girlfriend's brother.

He wanted them to "babysit his kid" that day because he and his girlfriend wanted to go out.

When the girlfriend brought it up, the poster answered politely but firmly. "It's my first Father's Day and I would like to spend it as a little family," they said, explaining that they wanted the day with their girlfriend and baby.

That did not land well. The girlfriend, according to the poster, "got salty and a little mad" and started acting passive aggressive.

The timing made the whole thing feel sharper. The poster said the brother and the poster already had a bad relationship: "Her brother doesn't like me and the feeling is mutual and we don't speak." The only time he reached out, the poster said, was when he needed something from the girlfriend. "He only talks to my girlfriend when he needs a favour."

Still, the poster said this was not about the child. "His kid is great and we've babysat him multiple times," they wrote. The issue was the day itself, and what it meant to them. This was supposed to be their first Father's Day, a chance to spend it with the girlfriend and their infant son.

The poster pointed back to a different holiday for comparison. "On my girlfriend's first Mother's Day it was just us 3," they said, referring to the day they spent together as a family. That's why they were confused by the backlash now.

"I don't know why she can't do the same for me," the poster wrote.

So the situation landed in a tense little knot: a brother asking for childcare, a girlfriend upset over the refusal, and a father wanting one day reserved for his own household. At the center of it was a simple answer that started the friction, no babysitting, not on Father's Day, not for the first time this family had marked the holiday.
