The tree stands about 20 feet from a neighbor's fence, and the poster says the two have always been friendly. So when the poster mentioned, "I was going to remove a vine," it seemed like a routine heads-up, just a bit of yard work.
The neighbor did not take it that way.
According to the poster, the neighbor immediately warned that "the tree will die and fall if I remove the vine." The message was blunt enough, but then came the part that sharpened the moment: the neighbor said he was "calling a lawyer today."
What was supposed to be a simple plan to clear a vine off a tree suddenly sounded like a legal fight.
