A Reddit thread about a dog's dirty paws turned into a full-blown argument over what belongs in bed.

The poster had stumbled across a post about someone's dog jumping onto the bed after coming in from the yard, only to leave ants on its paws. The comments were brutal. People called the idea of letting a dog on the bed "disgusting" and "unhygienic," and plenty said they'd never allow their dog to do that.

That's where the poster paused. Because their own dog did get on the bed, just not in the way the thread was describing.

They explained that the dog is not allowed on the bed right after coming in from outside. The rule gets stricter after the bedding is washed, too: for the first several days, the dog stays off entirely. Only when the next wash is getting closer does the dog get bed privileges again, and even then, it's only on the top cover.

So the question wasn't whether the dog was allowed on the bed at all. It was whether those rules were still a bad idea.

"Am I crazy for doing this?" the poster asked. "Is it a genuine hygiene concern?"

The comments clearly got under their skin enough to make them wonder if they were missing something obvious. But after the post picked up more attention than expected, the update shifted the tone.

"This definitely got way more attention than I was expecting!" the poster wrote. They added that reading through the responses had made them feel better. "Definitely makes me feel better reading everyone's comments, thank you!"

And the final word on the matter was simple: "My dog will be continuing to get time on the bed haha."
