That is the problem one poster brought to Reddit, describing what sounded less like an active job site and more like somebody had abandoned a work zone and walked away. "There's been construction equipment on my property for months now," the poster wrote, saying the gear seemed to belong to a small company, "maybe working on fiber lines."
The equipment was not just taking up space. It had already damaged part of the property.
The frustrating part was that nobody could get the company to respond. The poster said they had tried to make contact, but "they've basically just dumped their stuff and vanished." It was also clear this was not some municipal project or a city utility crew. "It's definitely not a city crew," they added, closing off one of the easier explanations.
With the equipment still there and no one answering calls, the poster wanted to know what came next. But they also wanted to avoid turning the whole thing into a legal fight if it could be helped. "I'm not looking to escalate things legally if I can avoid it," they said.
So they asked the question directly: "Is this something for code enforcement? Police?" In other words, who handles abandoned construction equipment on private property when the owner cannot be found and the damage is already done?
The poster also wanted a path that would not spiral into paperwork, conflict, or a drawn-out mess. "Is there any chance I can get this resolved without a huge headache?" they asked.
For now, the situation was simple in the worst way: equipment left behind, property damaged, and no company willing to pick up the phone. The poster ended by asking for advice from anyone who had dealt with something similar before. "Would appreciate any advice from folks who've dealt with something like this," they wrote.
