At 3:00 p.m. on May 28, 2025, in Virginia, a telescope user looking at the daytime sky caught something that did not belong there: a smooth, metallic object hanging motionless high above them.
The poster had been scanning casually, expecting the usual parade of daytime sights, "birds, planes, sunspots, etc." Instead, the scope landed on something stranger. "It wasn't a bird. Or a plane. Or any kind of drone I've seen before," the poster wrote.
What they saw was "hovering high in the atmosphere," silent and still, as if pinned in place. There were no wings. No propellers. No visible means of propulsion. For several seconds, it simply stayed there.
Then it moved.
The object suddenly "bolted out of frame at a speed that left me speechless." One moment it was hanging in view, the next it was gone, vanishing so fast the poster could hardly process what they'd just seen.
They did what people do when reality starts to blur: they grabbed snapshots through the telescope. According to the post, the images came out clear enough to show the shape, the shine, and "some strange light refractions around its edges." Whatever the object was, it was not just a quick flash or a smudge on the lens. The photos were distinct enough to preserve the sighting in detail.
The post offered no answer, only the encounter itself, a daytime telescope scan interrupted by something metallic, silent, and impossible-looking, hanging in the Virginia sky before streaking away with no obvious way of moving.
By the end, the poster said they were still stunned. "I'm still in shock," they wrote.
