THE CHILDFREE SHATTERED

A decade of childfree vows shatters when a positive test flips a wife's longing into a demand, forcing a couple to confront trust, betrayal, and an uncertain future.

A positive blood test turned into a relationship rupture in a single day.

For more than a decade, the poster says he and his wife had been explicit about not wanting children. He says he always used condoms, she always used contraception, and for years she had said two things over and over: that she did not mind a childfree life, and that if she ever got pregnant, she would get an abortion.

So when her period came a few days late, the scare felt manageable. She took a home pregnancy test. It was negative. They both breathed out.

But something still felt off to her, so she went for a blood test. That one came back positive.

The poster was with her when she saw the result. Her reaction was immediate: "oh shit!" They talked it through and, at least for that night, they were on the same page. They definitely did not want to be parents. She booked a clinic appointment as soon as possible.

Then the next day, everything shifted.

He went out to hang out with friends. When he came back, he says it was like a switch had flipped. She was suddenly a completely different person. Now, she said she actually wanted to be a mother. Now she felt protective of the child growing inside her. The conversation became hours of tears and back-and-forth, but neither of them budged.

The poster says he felt betrayed. He says he could have handled her wanting a divorce and children with someone else. What he could not handle was being pushed into parenthood after a decade of clear childfree talk. "I feel betrayed," he wrote.

Then came the next turn: she had a miscarriage.

She was devastated. She said she would never hold her child, never read them a bedtime story, never take them on trips. The poster says he felt terrible for her pain. He also felt relief that he would not become a parent.

That relief did not clear up the mess.

He describes the situation as bizarre, and says he worries he is the villain for denying her what she now says she really wants in life. But he also points out that he has been honest about being childfree for the last ten years. If she wants to leave, he says, she can, though that would hurt. For him, the future he imagined now feels shattered.

He ends by saying he is not sure what the post was for, maybe to vent, maybe to ask if anyone else has been in the same position or has advice. He adds that he has now booked a vasectomy, but the wait times in his country are long, so there will be "No PIV sex until that has been sorted."
