A speeding ticket turned into a family fight the second the cop got home, because the officer on the roadside was the girlfriend's dad.

"Made a whole account for the first time because my friend said this would make for a good story here," the 19-year-old poster wrote, laying out the mess. They'd been dating their 18-year-old girlfriend for about a year, and a couple of weeks ago they were driving home from her place when flashing lights appeared behind them.

The stop was awkward from the start. The poster says the officer who walked up to the car was the girlfriend's father. He kept things professional, the poster said, and wrote a ticket for speeding.

There was just one problem: the poster says they were not speeding.

"I wasn't," they wrote flatly, adding that they checked the dashcam afterward. The camera reportedly records GPS and speed data, and according to the poster, "It clearly shows I was going under the speed limit the entire time." That footage changed the argument from an uncomfortable traffic stop into something bigger.

The poster says they've already pleaded not guilty and have a court hearing scheduled for a few weeks out. Their plan is simple: fight the ticket.

"I'm planning to fight the ticket in court," they said, explaining that this is about protecting their license and future. They also stressed that they've never had a ticket before and aren't trying to make trouble. "I'm not trying to be difficult, dramatic, or disrespectful," they wrote. "I have the dashcam footage, I know I wasn't speeding."

But at home, the reaction was not supportive. The girlfriend pushed back hard, according to the poster, saying it would be better to pay the fine and move on rather than drag her father into court. She's worried about tension with her family, and the poster says she believes fighting the ticket could cause fallout for her dad personally and professionally.

"She thinks I should just pay the fine and move on, even if I wasn't speeding," the poster wrote. "I'm basically accusing her dad of either lying or making a serious mistake," they added, while also saying, "I don't want to disrespect her dad or damage the relationship I've built with him."

The situation has now spilled into the relationship itself. The girlfriend has grown distant, according to the poster, and has told them they're choosing a stupid traffic ticket over her and her family.

The poster says that's not what this is about. "I don't want to take the blame for something I didn't do," they wrote. "I think this is the right move by putting my future first."
