A date night ended with a wife crying in the car while her husband went upstairs alone, all because of a bouquet she thought had been planned, but turned out to be a last-minute app order.
The couple, both in their 30s, had been together for two years and recently got married. By the husband's account, they matched on almost everything except one thing: how she wanted to feel loved. She liked traditionally romantic gestures, and he said he did them because they made her happy.
For this date, she wanted the full treatment. She had asked him to "pick her up" in his car, bring flowers, open the door for her, and do the kind of small, deliberate things that make an ordinary evening feel special.
He says he forgot the flowers.
With the date already underway, he scrambled and ordered some through an app instead. They lived close enough for quick delivery, so it seemed like a fix. When the flowers arrived, she was happy at first.
Then he told her how they had been arranged.
The mood changed instantly.
According to him, she said she no longer felt special once she knew the flowers had been bought through the same app she used for routine errands like bread and milk. In her view, it had become less a romantic gesture and more like getting "a bag of doritos." She said she would have felt at least a little special if he had taken the time to order from a florist he had actually researched.
He did not take that well.
He said he felt unappreciated and thought her reaction was silly. The argument sharpened from there, and he fired off one line that became the center of the whole mess: "Was the gift thoughtless or are you thankless?"
That was when she started crying.
Instead of staying for the dinner they had planned, he got out and went upstairs, leaving her in the car downstairs in the complex. The date was over before it really began.
What was supposed to be a romantic evening had turned into a fight over effort, expectation, and whether flowers ordered in a hurry could still count as a meaningful gesture once the method was exposed.
