The wedding invite went to the sister's older sibling, but not to the sibling's wife.
A 32-year-old woman says her 28-year-old sister is getting married in a few weeks, and when the official invitations went out, the poster was included while her wife, 30, was left off the guest list entirely. The omission wasn't an accident. When asked why, the sister said it was deliberate. She wanted the wedding to be "as peaceful as possible" and said she did not feel comfortable having the wife there.
The two women have never exactly clicked. According to the poster, her wife and sister have long had a strained relationship built on mutual dislike and a few passive-aggressive exchanges. But there has never been a major blowup, and the poster says her wife has always been respectful at family gatherings. No scene, no public fight, no dramatic breakup of the family table. Just tension.
Then the story got sharper.
While sorting through the invitation situation, the poster learned that her ex-girlfriend was on the guest list. She had dated the ex for four years before meeting her wife. The breakup happened six years ago, and the sister had stayed friends with the ex afterward. That detail landed hard. The sister had chosen to invite someone from the poster's past, someone she no longer dated, while excluding the person she is married to now.
For the poster, that was the line.
She told her sister she would not attend the wedding and would not be sending a gift. If the sister did not recognize her wife as part of the family, she should not expect her to "play along with the celebration as if everything is fine." The wedding, in the poster's view, was no longer something she could show up for politely and pretend nothing was wrong.
The sister did not take that well. She accused the poster of being petty and said she was only trying to punish her for "setting boundaries."
The pressure didn't stop there. The parents stepped in and told the poster she was overreacting and should "just go and keep the peace."
But the poster says the issue is bigger than a seating chart or a guest list. To her, this is about respect for her marriage, and about why her sister was willing to invite an ex, but not her wife, to the family wedding.
