A birthday cake turned into a fight when a boyfriend showed up with chocolate instead of the carrot cake his partner had specifically asked for, and then demanded they eat it anyway.

The poster says their birthday was a couple of days ago, and about a week before the party they told their boyfriend exactly what they wanted: carrot cake. Not just any cake, either. Carrot cake was their favorite, and they said it was basically the only flavor they liked besides red velvet, which they "wasnt feeling it tbh."

The boyfriend pushed back. Since there was going to be a birthday party with friends, he said he should get a "flavour that people like." The poster told him the guests would be fine with carrot cake and said to get it anyway.

On the day of the party, the boyfriend picked up the cake in the afternoon. The poster didn't see it at the time because they were busy getting ready.

Then the cake came out.

It was a big chocolate cake.

The poster says they hate chocolate cake and that it makes them sick, and that the boyfriend already knew that. Their "face fell," but they didn't say anything in front of everyone. They did glare at him, though, and he kept insisting they eat a slice in front of the guests.

They refused to try it. Still, they cut the cake, blew out the candles, and handed pieces to everyone else at the party.

The real argument came afterward.

Once the guests were gone, the boyfriend walked into their room and tore into them for acting "like a child" and making a scene over not getting carrot cake. He told them, "nobody likes carrot cake," called them "spoiled and selfish," and said they looked stupid not eating cake at their own birthday. He also said he couldn't find carrot cake.

The poster says that doesn't add up. They say they've never gone to that shop and not seen carrot cake on the shelf, and even if it really wasn't available, he could have chosen literally any other flavor besides the one they hate.

The boyfriend snapped back that the poster was overreacting over cake and said he tried his best to make the birthday good. The poster agrees he put a lot of effort into organizing the celebration, but says they were still livid.

Now the two are still off with each other, and neither has apologized. The poster says they're starting to wonder if they were the one who went too far, and if they should have just eaten the cake and brought it up later.
